Immediate assistance
Call 111 where there is an immediate threat to life, a serious injury or illness, fire, chemical emergency or another situation requiring Police, Fire and Emergency or an ambulance.
After the immediate emergency has been managed, the event may also need to be notified to WorkSafe or the applicable designated agency.
The National Poisons Centre provides free, 24-hour advice about exposure to medicines, chemicals, poisons, bites, stings, plants and fungi.
Call 0800 POISON (0800 764 766) following suspected poisoning, inhalation, ingestion, or skin or eye exposure. Call 111 as well where the person is unconscious, having difficulty breathing or appears seriously unwell.
Healthline provides health information and clinical advice for situations that are not immediate emergencies.
Call 0800 611 116. Call 111 instead where urgent emergency assistance is required.
Call or text 1737 at any time for free, confidential support from a trained counsellor.
1737 provides personal support. It is not the service for reporting a breach of workplace health and safety duties. Work-related mental-health concerns can be raised through the organisation's own processes or with WorkSafe where appropriate.
Workplace and sector regulators
WorkSafe is New Zealand's primary workplace health and safety regulator. It provides guidance, receives notifications and concerns, and carries out regulatory and enforcement activity under the Health and Safety at Work Act.
Call 0800 030 040 to notify WorkSafe of a work-related death or notifiable injury, illness or incident. The number is available 24/7 for urgent notifications. Non-urgent health, safety and mentally healthy work concerns can be raised through WorkSafe's online forms.
In an emergency, call 111 first.
Maritime NZ is the national regulatory, compliance and response agency for the safety, security and environmental protection of coastal and inland waterways. They work to ensure that the oceans and waterways of Aotearoa are kept safe, secure, clean and sustainable.

The CAA are a Crown entity that work to ensure that NZ aviation meets the legal standards that are set by the Minister of Transport, overseeing aviation safety and security. Their Aviation Security Service (AvSec) works in relation to airports for screening passengers and their luggage.

The NZTA acts as the land transport regulator to deliver on land transport policy set by the Minister of Transport. They create and are in charge of a land transport system that connects people, products, and places.

The Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) is a Crown agent with responsibilities under several environmental laws, including responsibilities relating to hazardous substances, emissions trading, nationally significant proposals and activities in New Zealand's exclusive economic zone.
Environmental responsibilities are shared among the EPA, WorkSafe, local councils and other agencies. For workplace hazardous-substance safety concerns, WorkSafe may be the appropriate regulator; for an environmental discharge or pollution event, contact the applicable local or regional council.

Employment and professional support
Employment New Zealand provides information about minimum employment rights and helps employers and employees address employment relationship problems through services including early resolution and mediation.
Call 0800 20 90 20 for general employment information or help with an employment problem. Workplace health and safety notifications should be directed to WorkSafe or the applicable designated agency.
The Employment Relations Authority is the independent body that determines employment disputes that have not been resolved through other processes. It should not be confused with the Employment New Zealand contact centre.

HASANZ is an umbrella organisation representing workplace health and safety professionals in NZ. They are a first point of contact for business leaders and government on workplace health and safety matters, and they are an expert advisory group that guide effective H&S policy in NZ.

NZISM is New Zealand's professional association for occupational health and safety practitioners. It supports practitioners through professional development, accreditation, technical resources, networking and regional branches.
NZISM may be useful for people seeking professional development, industry connections or an accredited career pathway. Businesses seeking independent professional advice should also consider the HASANZ Register.
NZISM is not a regulator and should not be contacted instead of WorkSafe or the relevant designated agency to report a workplace event or concern.
Injury management
The purpose of the ACC is to focus on prevention, care, and recovery for everyone in New Zealand that is affected by an injury. They need to ensure that needs are met, and that people have the right care at the right time, while keeping levies fair and stable.
